OGUN ENVIRONMENTAL TASK FORCE CLEARS ILLEGAL STRUCTURES


To ensure a healthy, clean and safe environment, Ogun State Ministry of Environment Task Force has cleared illegal structures, shanties and covered drainages, as well as effected,compliance with the weekly sanitation exercise at market places in Abeokuta.


The exercise was enforced by the Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Ogun State Waste Management(OGWAMA) team, led by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Environment and Chairman on Environmental Task Force, Hon. Farouk Akintunde, carried out the operation at Kuto and Adatan markets, as well as June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto.


Speaking with journalists, Hon. Akintunde stated that the illegal structure erected at the frontage of Itesi Methodist Primary School 1 Adatan, was unacceptable, as it could endanger the lives of the pupils and distract them from learning.


“Government will not allow any illegal structure, more so that it affects lives of our children. We cannot afford to expose the pupils of this school to kidnapping and other dangers that can affect them; a school is a place for imparting knowledge and not for buying and selling”, he said.


He further explained that the Prince Dapo Abiodun-led administration was committed to keeping the state clean, free and safe from all diseases that could affect residents’ health, adding that the waste management team in the state was up to the task for proper disposal of refuse.
