The Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS) in Ogun State has matriculated and admitted 11 of it’s inmates into the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
The inmates were admitted to study various courses such as Business Administration, Political Science, Criminology and Security Studies, Peace and Conflict Resolution, public administration among others.
The graduation took place today at the Ibara Nigeria Correctional Service in Abeokuta the state in the presence of the Management of NOUN, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters, the institution Registrar, the Controller Correctional Service Ogun State, AbdulRasheed Halimi, the Assistant superintendent of correction 1 and social welfare/ education desk Officer, Awesu AbdulHakeem among others dignitaries.
Speaking shortly after the new students took there matriculation oaths, the Controller General of Corrections, Haliru Hababa who spoke through the Ogun State controller, AbdulRasheed Halimi said close to 3,000 (three thousand) inmates are currently undergoing various programmes with the National Open University and other Higher institutions that have been in partnership with the Correctional Service for several years.
According to him “Of significant note is the fact that this fruitful partnership with NOUN has produced not only graduates but masters degree and PHD holders
Therefore “Halimi” implore all those matriculating today to take advantage of this golden opportunity to add value to their lives.Also he expressed His concern on setbacks and difficulties they are facing He stated ” it is rather unfortunate that some unpatriotic elements have continue to test the will of the government by attempting to distort the positive trajectory
On his parts, the NOUN Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olufemi Peters challenged the matriculated inmates to be studios, thirst for knowledge urging them not to become a disgrace to their family.
