FUNAAB Abducted Student Released

A 400 Level student of Aqualculture and Fisheries Management,Federal University of Agriculture,Abeokuta(FUNAAB),Toyinbo Olayinka who was abducted by kidnappers on Saturday morning has gained freedom.

Olayinka was abducted in a private Farm at Abule Itoko, 10 km away from the Campus.A release by the University’s Director of Public Relations, Kola Adepoju indicated that the victim was released by his abductor unharmed.

He said “His release has thrown the entire University Community,the students in particular who staged a peaceful protest yesterday into jubilation.

Adepoju added “Details of his release are still sketchy and subject to the purview of Ogun State Police Command.

“The Management of the University, on behalf of the entire Academic Community is deeply grateful to security agencies both conventional and unconventional,especiallylOgun State Police Command, the Media,traditional rulers, other stakeholders and the public in general for their concern and efforts, which culminated to the freedom of our student.

But the victim’s uncle, Mr. John Oyeleye, disclosed that he (Olayinka) was tortured by his abductors after his kidnap.

Mr. Oyeleye who addressed the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kolawole Salako, members of his management team and the FUNAAB students’ leadership in the university, noted that Nathaniel’s father could not come due to old age, but sends his greetings and appreciation to the university management and the students at large.

He noted at the point of speaking, that the family is making plan to take him for treatment.

He also revealed that the family was thrown into shock and pandemonium after the abductors contacted the family members through one of his non-internet compliance phones.

He described the university, students and security operatives swift outcry and action as a good and encouraging one which, in no means has gone a long way in the release of Nathaniel.

Mr. Oyeleye said that the family is happy now and are heading to the Police to take custody of Nathaniel for treatment in an undisclosed hospital.He advised everybody to be cautious of their immediate environment, not to walk during an ungodly hour and pray for a better Nigeria.
