Mismanagement Of Ethnic Diversity, Cause Of Nigeria Crisis, Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has blamed the current crisis rocking Nigeria on mismanagement of diversity of various ethnic groups in the country.

Each of the groups, according to him, has perception of how he or she wants his or her tribe to be treated in the national discourse.

Obasanjo who made this known during an event organised by the Ogun State Baptist Conference to mark his 84th birthday ceremony, in Abeokuta, says the diversity is one of important cardinal of national unity.

The Former President says he is worried over the level of ethnic clashes ongoing nationwide, among other challenges such as insecurity, poverty, unemployment.

According to him, the Buhari’s administration appears incapable of addressing those challenges which has resorted into loss of lives and properties across the country.

Obasanjo, however, asks Christians to start participating in partisan politics to address some of the ongoing challenges before it is too late.

He also calls on the religious leaders in the country always speak truth to those in the positions of authorities just as every Nigerians must make contribution towards the good of the country.

Failure to do so, the Former President, says it amounts to being an accomplice to the wrong doings of those leaders.

Obasanjo says he always writes and criticizes his predecessors just like he uses to commend them whenever they do something right.

President of the Ogun State Baptist Conference, Reverend Doctor Oyewale Oyeniyi, commends Obasanjo for his unrelenting efforts in nation building even after leaving office 14 years ago.

Oyeniyi asks the Former President to ensure he leaves behind a great legacy for Baptist Convention, especially the State Baptist Conference which he is a member.
