
A male nurse, Owolabi Taiwo Peter his seeking justice after he was allegedly harassed by two Mobile policemen in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
According to Owolabi, one of the policemen had visited the pharmacy where he works as drug attendant to request drug for typhoid but he (Owolabi) refused to grant the officer’s request as he was not sure of his illness.
Narrating his ordeal, the nurse said he insisted that a lab test must be carried out on the policeman to know what’s actually wrong before prescribing drugs but the officer walked away angrily.
He further explained that after some minutes, he saw the uniform man coming with his colleague, pointing at him while have a silent conversation.
Owolabi said when the two policemen got his shop, they descended on him and beat him to stupor, leaving him with various degrees of injury.
He stressed that it took the intervention of another policeman in the area to rescue him from the angry officers.
His words “A Mopol came to my shop and requested for drug to cure typhoid but I turned down his request, telling him I couldn’t give him any drugs until I carry out lab test to know what’s wrong with him. I asked him to tell me how he was feeling and the symptoms he was seeing so as to treat him systematically. But he quizzed, saying don’t I see on his face that he had typhoid.
He added “But I told him I cannot know until I carry our test. The man left, as he left, I thought everything has been settled but he came back after some minutes with another MOPOL. I saw both of them coming in an aggressive manner. As they came in they started beating me, they kicked and gave me punch. As I was shouting another Mopol came from nowhere and rescued me them
Okoye Godwin who is Owolabi’s boss said he was surprised when he heard about the incident.
He said “The police men were not supposed to beat a staff whether casual worker or whatever. They should have come to me to tell me. I was here yesterday but nobody told me so I’m surprised to see the wound, I got confused.”
“I just want it to be handled amicably because what happened had happened. The policemen have apologized and promised me that it won’t happen again.”
