The governor disclosed this on Tuesday during a Stakeholders Meeting on Endsars Protest, saying that he was proud of their conduct during and after the protest.

He stressed that their good demonstration was a point of reference among other youths.

“Even when it was tempting to join the pattern of looting and violence as obtainable in some other parts of the country. You realised that any destruction of our commonwealth or even private properties diminishes us all in the long run. I enjoin you not to allow people from outside the state to destroy what belongs to us all or inflict harm on our state,” he added.

Abiodun stressed that the protests had questioned the police system and administration in the country which must be answered for the betterment of the nation.

He underscored the need to reform the police aside the demand by the youth to check their excesses.

His words “let me say that the #EndSARS protest has brought to the fore some germane questions about our police system and Administration. Apart from excesses of some police officers that are under focus with the #EndSARS protest, there is also the issue of the reform and structure of the police.

“The relative peace we have achieved in Ogun State in the wake of #EndSARS protest has been largely achieved through divine benevolence and effective engagement of the stakeholders and “local policing” by our youth and traditional rulers, which validates the call for police officers that are sourced from and and live within their communities.

On the issue of misconducts by operatives of the Nigeria Police Force, Governor Abiodun explained that police need continuous motivation and encouragement for them to be professional trustworthy in the discharge of their duties.

He stressed “We need to continue to encourage, motivate and support the police to be more effective, professional and trusted partners to achieve peace and security.”

“No doubt, there are many good men and officers of repute in the police force. Even during the subsequent violence that trailed the #EndSARS protest, we had stories of police stations that were not tampered with because of the respect and love the people of those areas have for their police officers in such stations. “

The deputy Inspector General of Police, DIG Adeleye Oyebade ,said the #Endsars protest has brought to the fore some germane questions about our police system and Administration.

“Apart from excesses of some police officers that are under focus with the #EndSARS protest, there is also the issue of the reform and structure of the police”, the governor stated.

Oyebade stressed that community policing would close the gap between the people and the police.

He disclosed that the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, had began the process of reforming the police, saying “the reform you (youths) are clamouring is already on the table, the reform is now and the IGP is already doing just that.
